FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(New Haven, CT) – New Haven State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr., announced that the Honorable Elpedio Vitale today sentenced Maurice Brown, age 45, of New Haven, to 25 years in prison, suspended after 20 years served, followed by 10 years of probation, for a 2018 sexual assault in New Haven.
On March 6, 2023, a jury in New Haven Superior Court convicted Brown of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(4), and Sexual Assault in the Third Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-72a(a)(2).
Brown’s conviction stems from the sexual assault of a victim in 2018 in New Haven. Evidence presented at trial showed that Brown gave the victim a substance that rendered her unconscious before the sexual assault.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Alex C. Beck and Assistant State’s Attorney Kelly E. Davis, with assistance from former Special Inspector Michael Pendleton. The New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office wants to thank the New Haven Police Department for their investigative efforts and dedication to this case.
