Windham State’s Attorney, Willimantic Police Chief Announce $50,000 Reward to Help Identify Killer of William Alvarado

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Willimantic, CT) – Anne F. Mahoney, Windham State’s Attorney, and Willimantic Police Chief Paul Hussey announced today that the State of Connecticut is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of William Alvarado’s killer or killers. Mr. Alvarado, age 73, was found slain in his home at 621 Valley Street in Willimantic on September 7, 2016.

Despite diligent investigative efforts by the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad, the Willimantic Police Department and the Cold Case Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Mr. Alvarado’s murder remains unsolved. In the hope of continuing to move this investigation forward, Gov. Ned Lamont has authorized a reward in the amount of $50,000 to any individual providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of Mr. Alvarado’s killer or killers. State’s Attorney Mahoney, Chief Hussey, members of the Cold Case Unit and Mr. Alvarado’s family gathered at the Willimantic Police Department today to discuss the reward.

“I want to thank Mr. Alvarado’s family members for being here today and especially thank Governor Lamont for having approved this reward,” State’s Attorney Mahoney said. “Mr. Alvarado’s family remains hopeful that someone will come forward with additional information that will lead to an arrest in this case. We are asking for the public’s help finding that information. Even if you have information that you don’t think is particularly useful, please share it with us.”

State's Attorney Mahoney said the Windham State’s Attorney’s Office is grateful to Gov. Lamont for offering the reward and to members of the Willimantic Police Department and the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad for continuing to press for answers in this case, and to the Cold Case Unit for taking on the case.

“Nearly seven years ago, Mr. Alvarado’s life tragically ended and since then, he has not been forgotten,” Chief Hussey said. “We believe there is someone out there who can help bring justice for the Alvarado family. Every bit of information helps so we are appealing to the public to reach out to us and provide information we need to help us identify and arrest those responsible for this heinous crime. We are grateful to State’s Attorney Mahoney for her work on this case and to Governor Lamont for approving the reward.”
