New Britain Man Receives 15-Year Sentence For Abusing Child

6/10/2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Britain, CT) - Brian W. Preleski, New Britain State’s Attorney, announced that Dylan Vitale, age 22, of New Britain was sentenced on June 8 by the Hon. Maureen M. Keegan to 15 years of incarceration followed by 5 years of special parole after being convicted of one count of Assault in the First Degree in connection with the beating of an 18 month old toddler.

On June 23, 2019, the New Britain Police Department was called to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Upon arrival, physicians reported that an 18-month old-toddler had been admitted with severe injuries that appeared suspicious in nature. Medical examination revealed that the toddler suffered from multiple bone fractures of varying ages, a lacerated pancreas and bruising. The New Britain Police conducted an investigation and determined that Dylan Vitale was responsible for the injuries suffered by this child.

This case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Christian Watson. Watson commented that, “This is one of the most severe cases of child abuse I’ve seen in my years as a prosecutor. It is likely that this child would have died had it not been for the efforts of the nurses and physicians at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The New Britain Police diligently pursued this matter and today justice has been served.”
