Judge Sentences New Haven Man Convicted of Sexual Assault, Risk of Injury Charges

(New Haven, CT) – New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced that the Honorable Eliot D. Prescott today sentenced Carlos Gomez, age 69, of New Haven, to 25 years in prison, execution suspended after 21 years served, and 10 years of sexual offender probation.

On March 1, 2024, a jury in New Haven Superior Court found the defendant guilty of five counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2) and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2). The victims and their families were present and spoke at today’s sentencing hearing.

Evidence at trial showed Gomez sexually assaulted two children under the age of 10 in New Haven between 2007 and 2012. The two cases were joined for a consolidated trial before a jury in New Haven Superior Court.

The cases were investigated by the New Haven Police Department. The State’s Attorney is grateful to the Department of Children and Families and the Yale-New Haven Hospital Child Abuse Clinic for their assistance. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa R. Holmes and Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah E. Jones, with assistance from Inspector Kevin Grenier.
