(Bridgeport, CT) - Joseph T. Corradino, State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Bridgeport, announced that a Bridgeport Superior Court jury today found Shardel Ragin guilty of Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a(a) and Criminal Possession of a Firearm in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217.
Ragin, age 36, of Bridgeport, was accused of shooting 34-year-old Max Antoine of Stamford after midnight on April 20, 2017 in front of the former Tiago’s restaurant on State Street in downtown Bridgeport.
The State was represented by Assistant State’s Attorney Mary-Caitlin Harding. Inspector Chris DiCarlo played a key role in bringing about the conviction. Retired Bridgeport Detective Robert Winkler and Retired Lieutenant Christopher Lamaine investigated the case, and Detective Keith Hanson provided assistance to the prosecution during the trial.
“The jury was conscientious in working through the evidence to reach an appropriate verdict,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Harding.
Assistant State’s Attorney Harding is on loan to the Bridgeport State’s Attorney’s Office from the Danbury Judicial District. State’s Attorney Corradino said, “We are very fortunate to have a person of Ms. Harding’s proven ability assisting us in the prosecution of such serious cases.”
Ragin faces a maximum sentence of 70 years in prison when he sentenced by the Honorable Robin Pavia on June 20, 2024.
