FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Danbury, CT) – David R. Applegate, Danbury Judicial District State’s Attorney, today announced that the Honorable Charles M. Stango on May 6, 2024 sentenced Yong Sik Kim, age 63, of Brookfield, to five years in prison, execution suspended after 27 months served, and 15 years of probation, for a 2018 sexual assault in Danbury.
Kim was found guilty by a jury in Danbury Superior Court jury on February 14, 2024 of Sexual Assault in the Third Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-72a(a)(1) and Assault of an Elderly Person in the Third Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-61a. Specifically, the Court imposed a sentence of five years, execution suspended after 27 months relative to the Sexual Assault in the Third Degree count and 364 days to serve on the Assault of an Elderly Person in the Third Degree count, to run concurrent to the Sexual Assault count.
Evidence at trial showed the defendant sexually assaulted a co-worker at the victim’s residence. Prosecutors introduced DNA evidence to corroborate the victim’s assertions.
The lead prosecutor for the case was Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Tori L. Ludwig and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Russell C. Zentner assisted as second chair. They were assisted by Paralegal Specialist Shanik Smith and Inspector Adam Marcus.
