Judge Sentences Bloomfield Woman For Fatal 2021 Shooting

5/08/2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, CT) - Hartford State’s Attorney Sharmese L. Walcott announced today that the Honorable David P. Gold on May 5, 2023 sentenced Marvyann Duncan to 25 years in prison, suspended after 10 years served and five years of probation, for the April 2021 fatal shooting of her boyfriend, Ali Murphy, age 39, at their Bloomfield home.

Duncan, age 39, of Bloomfield, had pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-55a.

According to court records, on April 9, 2021, Duncan called emergency-911 operators to report that she had shot someone. Upon arrival at the scene, Bloomfield police found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.  Duncan told police that she and her boyfriend were having an argument that turned into a physical altercation. Duncan, a pistol permit holder, admitted to police that she used her registered firearm to shoot the victim, killing him.

This case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Anthony Bochicchio, with assistance from Inspector Robert Nesci.
