FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(New Haven, CT) – New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. today announced that a jury in New Haven Superior Court on April 26, 2024 found Demetrice Lewis, age 45, of New Haven, guilty of the crime of Criminal Possession of a Revolver in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217c(a)(1).
Evidence at the trial showed that in the early morning hours of March 27, 2020, in East Haven, Lewis, a convicted felon, possessed a loaded Charter Arms .38-caliber SPL Revolver on his waistband, secured by a holster.
This arrest was made by the East Haven Police Department and the case was prosecuted by Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Jacqueline M. Fitzgerald and Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney David J. Strollo, with assistance from Investigator Dietrich Hernandez and Inspector Sean Faughnan. The Honorable Eliot D. Prescott presided over the trial.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 9, 2024 in New Haven Superior Court. Criminal Possession of a Revolver is a class C felony charge that can result in a prison sentence ranging from a two-year mandatory minimum sentence to up to 10 years of incarceration.
