East Haven Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Sexually Assaulting Minors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced that Lawrence Maenza, age 45, of East Haven, was sentenced today by the Honorable Eliot D. Prescott to serve 15 years in prison for two counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2) and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).

The sentence was imposed after a Superior Court jury in New Haven convicted Maenza of the charges on February 1, 2024. After release from prison, Maenza will be required to register as a sex offender for life and complete sex offender probation for an additional 15 years. Evidence at trial showed Maenza sexually assaulted two children under the age of 10 in locations across New Haven and Hartford counties. The two cases were joined for a consolidated trial in New Haven Superior Court.

“We thank the young victims in this case for having the courage to come forward and tell their story,” State's Attorney Doyle said. The cases were investigated by the Branford and Wethersfield Police Departments. State’s Attorney Doyle is grateful to the Department of Children and Families and the Yale Child Abuse Clinic for their assistance.

The cases were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory L. Borrelli, with assistance from Inspector Alfonso Vazquez.
