Jury Convicts Brandon Roberts of the Murder of Emily Todd in Bridgeport

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Bridgeport, CT) - Joseph T. Corradino, Fairfield State’s Attorney, today announced that Brandon Roberts was found guilty by a jury of Murder in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-54a, Felony Murder in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54c, Robbery in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-134 and Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-35. State's Attorney Corradino presented the case on behalf of the state, along with Assistant State’s Attorney Susan Campbell.

Roberts’ conviction stems from the shooting death of Emily Todd on December 8, 2018 near a boat ramp in Bridgeport. Evidence presented at trial showed Roberts confessed to police after his arrest and stole money from Todd's bank account after the shooting. The murder weapon was later recovered by the Cleveland, Ohio police department after Roberts sold the gun on the street when he fled Connecticut following Todd’s murder. He waived extradition and was returned to Connecticut to face these charges.

“It’s a shame that this young woman’s life was cut short for a mere $450,” State's Attorney Corradino said.

In commenting on the verdict, the State’s Attorney said: “The jury was attentive and conscientious, and worked hard to arrive at a verdict based on the law and evidence.”

State's Attorney Corradino credited the conviction to the excellent work of the detectives of the Bridgeport Police Department Homicide Squad led by Lt. Christopher LaMaine and the department’s Identification Unit, several of whom have since retired. He also expressed appreciation to the FBI Cellular Analysis Survey Team, led by Special Agent James Wines.  “The people of the City of Bridgeport and the Fairfield Judicial District continue to benefit from the outstanding level of cooperation between the state and federal agencies in this jurisdiction to protect the life and property of every resident,” the prosecutor stated.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 24, 2022 in Bridgeport Superior Court before Judge Alex Hernandez.
