New Britain Man Convicted of 2018 Sexual Assault in New Britain

4/05/2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Britain, CT) - Christian M. Watson, State's Attorney for the Judicial District of New Britain, announced today that on April 3, 2023, a New Britain Superior Court jury found Lazaro Alonso Centeno-Delgado guilty of Sexual Assault in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2), and Risk of Injury to a Minor, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).

Centeno-Delgado was found guilty after a five-day trial in New Britain Superior Court before the Honorable Laura F. Baldini. According to the evidence presented at trial, on January 28, 2019, the New Britain Police Department investigated a complaint that Centeno-Delgado sexually assaulted a 5-year-old female on December 31, 2018. During the investigation, Centeno-Delgado made an incriminating statement to the New Britain Police that corroborated the 5-year-old victim's complaint.

The New Britain State's Attorney's Office would like to thank New Britain Police Officer David McDermott for his diligent investigative efforts in this case.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State's Attorney Robert Mullins, with the assistance of Supervisory Inspector Jerry Chrostowski.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 21, 2023.
