FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Rocky Hill, CT) - A Milford man has been arrested and charged with fraudulently applying for $13,500 in emergency rental funds from the State of Connecticut’s UniteCT Program.

Jason Turoczi, age 39, of Milford, was arrested by Inspectors from the Statewide Prosecution Bureau of the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney on March 21, 2022 and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Larceny in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-49/53a-122, Criminal Attempt to Commit Identity Theft First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-49/53a-129b, Forgery in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §53a-138 and Forgery in the Second Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §53a-139. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Statewide Prosecution Bureau.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Turoczi submitted a fraudulent online application to the state’s UniteCT Program for rental assistance using the identity of another person and forged documents. The federally funded UniteCT program provides rental and utility payment assistance to qualified Connecticut households financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Turoczi’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 27, 2022, in Superior Court, G.A. No. 14, Hartford. The charges against him are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty. Turoczi currently has 15 cases pending in seven different Judicial Districts.
