Jury Convicts New Haven Man of Sexual Assault Charges

(New Haven, CT) - John P. Doyle Jr., New Haven State’s Attorney, announced that a jury today in New Haven Superior Court found Maurice Brown, age 45, of New Haven, guilty of the crimes of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(4), and Sexual Assault in the Third Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-72a(a)(2). The Honorable Elpedio N. Vitale presided over the jury trial.

According to evidence introduced at trial, Brown sexually assaulted the complainant after providing an illicit substance that rendered her unconscious in the city of New Haven in May of 2017.

The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Kelly Davis and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Alexander C. Beck, who were assisted by Special Inspector Michael Pendleton.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 16, 2023 in New Haven Superior Court.
