New Haven Man Convicted of 2011 Cold Case Murder

3/05/2020

New Haven State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin announced that Christopher Calhoun, age 28, of Fountain Street, New Haven, was convicted on February 25, 2020, of Murder.

Christopher Calhoun’s conviction stems from the shooting death of Issah Gantt, age 24, which occurred in the early morning hours of April 11, 2011, in the Church Street South Housing Complex in New Haven.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Seth Garbarsky and Assistant State’s Attorney Reed Durham.

Senior Assistant State's Attorney Garbarsky stated, “To further this cold case investigation, an investigatory grand jury was convened on 14 occasions between September of 2017 and May of 2018.  The grand juror heard testimony from 37 witnesses and received more than 100 exhibits into evidence. This murder would not have been solved absent the collaborative efforts of the New Haven Cold Case Unit members who worked tirelessly to bring Mr. Calhoun to justice.”

In addition, the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Gantt family and the New Haven community for their patience.

Christopher Calhoun will be sentenced for his crime at the New Haven Superior Court, 235 Church Street, New Haven, on April 21, 2020.
