Jury Finds New Haven Man Guilty of Multiple Counts of Sexual Assault and Risk of Injury to a Minor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Haven, CT) - John P. Doyle Jr., State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven, announced today that a jury on March 1, 2024 found Carlos Gomez, age 69, of New Haven, guilty of five counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2) and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).

Evidence at trial showed Gomez sexually assaulted two children under the age of 10 in the city of New Haven between 2007 and 2012. The two cases were joined for a consolidated trial before a jury in New Haven Superior Court, with the Honorable Eliot D. Prescott presiding.

The cases were investigated by the New Haven Police Department. State's Attorney Doyle is grateful to the Department of Children and Families and the Yale-New Haven Hospital Child Abuse Clinic for their assistance. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa R. Holmes and Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah E. Jones, with assistance from Inspector Kevin Grenier.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 24, 2024 in New Haven Superior Court.
