(Rocky Hill, CT) - A New Mexico man has been charged with murder in connection with the May 3, 2008 fatal shooting of Jumar Joiner in Hartford following tips received by the Division of Criminal Justice's Cold Case Unit.
Mark White, 44, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is charged with the shooting death of Joiner, which occurred on West Morningside Street in Hartford. A report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Joiner, 26, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting. In the days, weeks, and months that followed Joiner’s death, investigators followed tips and leads, but no arrest was made.
In 2017, the Division of Criminal Justice’s Cold Case Unit’s tip line received new leads in the case that helped result in the March 2, 2022 arrest of White. White is being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on March 17, 2022. The charges are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The Cold Case Unit was established in the Office of the Chief State's Attorney in May of 1998 to focus special investigative efforts on crimes that have gone unsolved for a prolonged period of time. The Unit currently includes Inspectors and Prosecutors from the Division of Criminal Justice and investigators with the Hartford Police Department, Connecticut State Police, the state Department of Correction and at various times, other local, state and national law enforcement agencies.
