The Office of Inspector General is investigating the in-custody death of Brenton Chambers who died on February 4, 2022 while in police custody at the Norwich Police Department. On February 5, 2022, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy. At this time, the results of that autopsy are listed as pending. On February 3, 2022, Norwich police officers arrested Chambers on charges of violation of probation, along with weapons and drug charges. The body worn camera recording of his arrest is available here. After his arrest, Norwich police officers took Chambers to the Norwich Police Department where he went through the booking process. A video recording of Chambers in the booking area is available here. While at the police department, Chambers complained of foot pain and was taken to the hospital for medical attention. A video of Chambers returning to the Norwich Police Department is available here. On February 4, 2022 at approximately 3:58 a.m., Chambers collapsed in his cell. Norwich police officers rendered aid and summoned the assistance of emergency medical technicians. The recording of Chambers in his cell is available here. The Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad is conducting the investigation that is continuing.
