Naugatuck Woman Charged with Scamming Public Assistance Program

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Rocky Hill, CT) – A Naugatuck woman has been arrested and charged with stealing more than $3,000 from a program financed by the Connecticut Department of Social Services. 

Elba Galeano Rodriguez, age 51, of Naugatuck was arrested on January 31, 2024 by Inspectors from the Statewide Prosecution Bureau of the Office of the Chief State's Attorney and charged with Larceny in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §53a-122.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Galeano Rodriguez received $3,131 in benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that she was not entitled to receive from November 14, 2022 to October 31, 2023. Court records show Galeano Rodriguez failed to report earned income during this time period. Galeano Rodriguez was released on a promise to appear in Waterbury Superior Court, G.A. No. 4, on February 8, 2024.

The charges are merely accusations and Galeano Rodriguez is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Connecticut Department of Social Services investigative division submitted the arrest warrant application for Galeano Rodriguez’s arrest. The case is being prosecuted by the Statewide Prosecution Bureau.
