2/02/2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced today that a jury in New Haven Superior Court on February 1, 2024 found Lawrence Maenza, age 44, of East Haven, guilty of two counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2) and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).

Evidence at trial showed Maenza sexually assaulted two children under the age of 10 in locations across New Haven and Hartford counties. The two cases were joined for a consolidated trial before a jury in New Haven Superior Court, with the Honorable Eliot D. Prescott presiding.

The cases were investigated by the Branford and Wethersfield Police Departments. The State’s Attorney is grateful to the Department of Children and Families and the Yale Child Abuse Clinic for their assistance. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory L.
