FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced that the Honorable Gerald L. Harmon today sentenced Emanuel Dominguez-VillaGomez, age 35, of Cheshire to 27 years in prison for the 2019 fatal stabbing of his wife, Monica Pinto Dominguez, age 31, in Cheshire.

Dominguez-VillaGomez on November 3, 2023 pleaded guilty in New Haven Superior Court to the crimes of Murder in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a and Risk of Injury to a Child in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(1) prior to and in lieu of a criminal jury trial.

Evidence in the case showed Dominguez-VillaGomez attacked his wife with a knife, stabbing her numerous times in their Cheshire home on September 11, 2019. Cheshire Police responded to a 911 call from the home and entered into an occurring crime scene where they located the defendant, the victim and two minor children within the home. Ms. Dominguez died four days after the attack.

An autopsy revealed a total of 30-40 stab wounds, including two long wounds to the victim's neck. During a probable cause hearing in New Haven Superior Court in March of 2020, Dr. Jacqueline Nunez of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner testified that she observed a total of 10 “sharp wounds” to the victim’s neck, 13 “sharp wounds” to her head and four wounds to her torso, as well as about 13 wounds to her hands.

The family of Ms. Dominguez participated and observed today's court proceedings over a virtual platform from Portugal, where they reside.

The case was prosecuted by State’s Attorney Doyle and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa R. Holmes with assistance from Supervisory Inspector Robert Sage and Inspector Sean Faughnan. State's Attorney Doyle would like to extend his gratitude to the Cheshire Police Department for their investigative efforts as well as their professionalism and compassion on this case.
