The State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Litchfield, with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Unit, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the police use of force in the shooting of Waterbury Police Officer Charles Mauriello, who suffered a non-lethal bullet strike to the chest area of his body armor on December 8, 2020 in Waterbury.
In a continued effort to remain consistent with the Division of Criminal Justice's commitment to transparency and accountability, Litchfield State's Attorney Dawn Gallo, who was assigned to conduct the investigation and determine if the use of force was justified under state law, today released camera footage of the incident.
Additional information concerning this investigation will be released as appropriate. Pursuant to General Statutes Section 51-277a(c), the Division of Criminal Justice will issue a final report upon the conclusion of the investigation.
