Jermaine Scott Sentenced to 55 Years in Prison for the 2017 Murder of Johnny Lezeau in Norwalk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

11/13/2024

(Stamford, CT) – Stamford/Norwalk Judicial District State’s Attorney Paul J. Ferencek today announced that the Honorable Alex V. Hernandez on November 12, 2024 sentenced Jermaine Scott, age 27, of Stamford, to 55 years in prison for the July 20, 2017 murder of Johnny Lezeau in Norwalk.

A Superior Court jury in Stamford on August 15, 2024 found Scott guilty of Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a.

According to trial testimony, the defendant and his then-girlfriend were on their way to a wedding when they encountered a group of young men who the defendant believed were related to a man who had insulted and threatened his girlfriend in the past. The defendant left the scene and returned to his home to obtain a firearm and a black sweatshirt. He then returned to the scene, located the group of men again, and fired five to seven shots at the group. Johnny Lezeau was the only person struck by the bullets. A bullet went through his chest and lodged in his arm. He died at Norwalk Hospital later that evening.

Surveillance cameras in the neighborhood captured the vehicle the defendant and his girlfriend were in. Investigators spoke to both parties that evening they denied involvement. Months later, the girlfriend came forward and provided the details of that evening and the defendant’s involvement. She testified at trial pursuant to a cooperation agreement. Witnesses to the shooting included two of the young men the victim was with, and a Good Samaritan who called 911 that evening. Two additional bullets that matched the bullet found in the victim’s body were found in the wall of two houses on the street. The firearm used in the shooting was never recovered.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth K. Moran and Assistant State’s Attorney Margaret Moscati, with assistance from Inspector Martin O’Reilly.
