(New London, CT) – Paul J. Narducci, State’s Attorney for the New London Judicial District, today announced that a Superior Court jury on February 27, 2025 found Oles Jean-Baptiste, age 48, of Norwich, guilty of charges of Interfering with an Officer, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-167a, Engaging Police in Pursuit, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 14-223(b), and Disobeying an Officer’s Signal, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 14-223(b). Following the verdict, the Honorable Elizabeth C. Leaming sentenced Jean-Baptiste to 364 days in prison.
Evidence from the trial showed that the defendant fled from Montville police on December 26, 2019 after an officer, using lights and sirens, attempted to pull him over. Instead, the defendant increased his speed and fled to a residence. When the defendant tried to run inside the home, the officer tried to stop him and a struggled ensued. The defendant was able to escape and hopped a fence until he was eventually arrested.
The New London State’s Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Montville Police Department for their work in this case.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Carlos Cruz, with assistance from Investigator Peter Camp.
