(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. today announced that a jury in New Haven Superior Court on November 14, 2024 found Daniel Cervoni, age 23, of Berlin, guilty of one count of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(3).
Evidence at trial showed the defendant sexually assaulted a woman in a dormitory on the campus of Quinnipiac University while she was physically helpless. Evidence established that Cervoni, the victim, and three other friends were visiting a mutual friend in the dormitory after a night out in New Haven. During the night, the defendant was observed by witnesses engaging in sexual intercourse with the physically helpless victim. At the time of the assault, both the defendant and the victim were not students of the university. The case was presented before a jury in New Haven, with the Honorable Peter L. Brown presiding.
State’s Attorney Doyle wishes to extend his gratitude to the Hamden Police Department and the Quinnipiac University Department of Public Safety for their investigation of this case. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory L. Borrelli, with assistance from Supervisory Inspector Racheal Cain.
Cervoni faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of nine months and a maximum of 10 years to serve when he is sentenced on February 13, 2025 in New Haven Superior Court.
