Jury Finds Previously Convicted Felon Guilty of Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Interfering With Police

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

7/18/2025

(Rocky Hill, CT) - John P. Doyle, Jr., State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven, announced today that a jury in New Haven Superior Court on July 14, 2025, found Stanley Rudolph, age 33, of New Haven, guilty of the crimes of Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-35(a) and Interfering with an Officer, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-167a. The Honorable Matthew A. Weiner presided over the jury trial.  Rudolph also was found guilty of the crime of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-217(a)(1) in a separate court proceeding.

According to evidence introduced at trial, New Haven police officers located the defendant while responding to a suspicious person complaint made by a New Haven resident. The defendant initially ran from the officers but was eventually taken into custody, and in a subsequent search of the area, investigators found a handgun with eight rounds of ammunition. A previously convicted felon, Rudolph is prohibited under Connecticut law from possessing firearms.

The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas J. Finnucan, with assistance from Inspector Michael Mastropetre.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 20, 2025 in New Haven Superior Court.
