(New Haven, CT) - John P. Doyle, Jr., State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven, announced today that the Honorable Frank A. Iannotti on July 2, 2025, sentenced Jamiramarquisha Perry, age 27, of New Haven, to 12 years in prison, execution suspended after 66 months served, followed by five years of probation.
On April 10, 2025, pursuant to a plea, the defendant was found guilty in New Haven Superior Court of Evading Responsibility, in violation of Connecticut General Statues § 14-224(b)(1). Kevin Coleman, a 63-year-old pedestrian, was struck by a motor vehicle driven by the defendant and suffered serious permanent injuries.
This incident occurred on November 12, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m. on Chapel Street in New Haven. The defendant was operating an unregistered, uninsured motor vehicle, without a license, as a ride-hailing service, and had two customers in the car. The defendant was driving at a high rate of speed when the victim began to cross the street. The passengers warned the defendant to slow down but she did not, struck the victim and continued to drive, ignoring passengers’ pleas to stop the vehicle. Eventually, the defendant stopped the vehicle so the passengers could exit, and when they did, she drove off and did not call for help. She later traveled on vacation to Florida.
A witness took a photo of the defendant’s car and license tag. With this lead, New Haven police officers developed the defendant as a suspect and an arrest warrant was issued. Officers found the defendant hiding under a stairwell at the time the arrest warrant was served.
The case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney David J. Strollo.
