(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced that the Honorable Ann F. Lawlor today sentenced Charles Bellino, age 57, of New Haven, to 15 years in prison, execution suspended after four years served, followed by 10 years of sexual offender probation. Judge Lawlor also ordered Bellino to register as a sexual offender for a period of 10 years after his release from the State of Connecticut Department of Correction.
On March 27, 2025, a jury in New Haven Superior Court found the defendant guilty of one count of Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-73a(a)(1)(B), and one count of Risk of Injury to a Minor, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).
Evidence at trial showed Bellino inappropriately touched a 13-year-old female in a sexual manner in July 2020.
“This office will prosecute, in order to hold accountable, those who commit horrific acts against all members of our society, particularly young people,” stated State’s Attorney Doyle. “Judge Lawlor’s sentence hopefully will aid the victim, who will shortly graduate from high school, in her continued recovery with the knowledge that the defendant has been brought to justice for his crime.”
The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Danielle M. Hottin and Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney David J. Strollo, with assistance from investigator Kerry Dalling, Inspector Kevin Grenier and Office of Victim Services Advocate Stephanie Backus.
