Jury Finds Virginia Man Guilty of Operating Under the Influence and Failure to Appear

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

11/04/2024

(Torrington, CT) – Litchfield Judicial District State’s Attorney David R. Shannon today announced that a jury in Torrington Superior Court on November 1, 2024 found Joseph Andriano, age 38, of Richmond, Virginia, guilty of the crimes of Operating While Under the Influence, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 14-227a(a)(1) and Failure to Appear in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-173(a)(1).

According to evidence introduced at trial, on February 8, 2019, the defendant operated a motor vehicle in the Town of Goshen under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The defendant also failed to appear on a scheduled date in Superior Court on March 11, 2021.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 4, 2025, in Superior Court in Torrington. At that time, the defendant is subject to enhanced penalties due to a previous conviction for operating under the influence in New York.

The case was investigated by the Connecticut State Police (Troop B, North Canaan), and was prosecuted by Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Alessandra Santacroce. The State’s Attorney would like to thank the Connecticut State Police for their work and dedication in this investigation.
