(Hartford, CT) - Sharmese L. Walcott, Hartford Judicial District State’s Attorney, announced today that a Superior Court jury in Hartford on March 7, 2025 found Lamont Fields, age 27, and Joshua Rodriguez, age 23, both of Hartford, guilty of charges related to their roles in a 2021 triple shooting in Hartford that resulted in the death of one man and the wounding of two others.
Fields was convicted of one count of Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a, one count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a, two counts of Assault in the First Degree With a Discharge of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-59(a)(5), two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Assault in the First Degree by Discharge of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-59(a)(5), and one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217(a)(1).
Rodriguez was found guilty of one count of Accessory to Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a, one count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a, two counts of Accessory Assault in the First Degree with a Discharge of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-59(a)(5), and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Assault in the First Degree by Discharge of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-59(a)(5).
According to evidence introduced at trial, on May 4, 2021, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Hartford Police officers responded to 17 Norwich Street on a shot spotter activation of six rounds. Officers located three victims, each suffering from gunshot wounds. Victim 1, age 33, Victim 2, age 33, and Victim 3, age 30, were socializing in front of 19 Norwich Street. During that time, they witnessed an altercation between a male and a female. The male was later identified as Rodriguez. One of the victims yelled, “Chill out,” and for the male to stop hitting the female. Rodriguez responded, “You don’t want any part of this,” and then telephoned Fields. Minutes later, Fields and Rodriguez walked toward the victims and began shooting at them as the victims tried to flee. Police found Victim 1 lying in the driveway at 15-17 Norwich Street with a gunshot wound to his chest. Victims 2 and 3 were located inside 19 Norwich St., suffering from gunshot wounds to the back and leg. Victim 1 was transported to Hartford Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Victim 2 sustained a gunshot wound to his ankle and Victim 3 sustained two gunshot wounds to his back and is paralyzed as a result of the attack.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Samantha Magnani and Casey Flynn, with the assistance of Inspector Robert Nesci, Paralegal Specialist Lakisha Malave and Certified Legal Intern Kevin Gaidos.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 8, 2025, in Hartford Superior Court.
