(Hartford, CT) - Sharmese L. Walcott, Hartford Judicial District State’s Attorney, today announced that the Honorable Kevin C. Doyle on September 4, 2024 sentenced David Olivo, age 43, of the Unionville section of Farmington, to 30 years in prison, execution suspended after 13 years served and 25 years of probation for sexually assaulting two minors.
A Superior Court jury on July 1, 2024 found Olivo guilty of two counts of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(1), one count of Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-73a(a)(1)(A), and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).
Evidence introduced at trial included the testimony of two minor victims who each reported to police in Farmington that they had been sexually assaulted by the defendant on separate occasions. Both victims were friends with the defendant’s fourteen year-old daughter. One victim reported that on July 1, 2020, the defendant offered to drive the victim home from his house. During the trip, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim. Additional testimony showed that on February 6, 2021, the defendant picked up a group of minors and brought them back to his home for a sleepover. In the early morning hours of the next day, the second victim woke up and entered the kitchen for a drink. The defendant was in the kitchen during this time and sexually assaulted the victim.
State’s Attorney Walcott would like to extend her gratitude to the Farmington Police Department for their investigative efforts, to prosecutors in the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office who handled the case and to the victims who testified in open court.
"The victims in this case showed bravery and resilience in coming forward and going through the legal system, including having to testify about being sexually assaulted in open court,” State’s Attorney Walcott said. “I am hopeful they see that this sentence accomplishes so much - it is both punishment for the horrific crime and protection of future potential victims.”
This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Danielle O’Connell and Certified Legal Intern Kevin Gaidos, with the assistance of Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Jesse Giddings, Inspectors Joseph Buyak and Luis Rodriguez, and Paralegal Specialist Kelly De La Cruz.
