(Bridgeport, CT) - Bridgeport Judicial District State’s Attorney Joseph T. Corradino announced that Tavares Jefferson, age 47, of Bridgeport, was sentenced today by the Honorable Peter A. McShane to 90 years in prison for the murder of Jamain Allen and the assault of Jose Rivera during a shooting in Bridgeport in 2020.
A jury in Bridgeport Superior Court on October 11, 2024 found Jefferson guilty of Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a(a), Assault in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-59(a)(5), Criminal Possession of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217(a), and Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-35(a).
According to the evidence introduced at trial, Jefferson shot the decedent, Jamain Allen, six times and Jose Rivera once on October 2, 2020, in retaliation for Allen’s brother’s theft of three kilograms of cocaine.
The case was investigated by the Bridgeport Police Department and was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Michael DeJoseph, who was assisted by Inspector Christian DiCarlo and Paralegal Christina Bennett.
State’s Attorney Corradino commended the Bridgeport Police Department and Attorney DeJoseph for their professionalism in the investigation and prosecution of this homicide.
“We are fortunate to have experienced investigators and prosecutors capable of preparing and presenting complex cases,” State’s Attorney Corradino said.
