(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. today announced that a jury in New Haven Superior Court on December 15, 2025 found Edward Casigne, age 41, of New Haven and Meriden, guilty of Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-35(a)(1), Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-38(a), Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-202w(c)(1), and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-271(a)(1)(A), after a two-day trial.
Evidence at trial showed that a task force of New Haven police and other officers were attempting to locate the defendant for the service of a warrant on November 8, 2023. Authorities located the defendant at the Longhorn Steakhouse on Universal Drive in North Haven and waited for him to exit the restaurant and enter the parking lot before making the arrest. The defendant was able to get into the driver’s seat of a nearby car before he was apprehended and the firearm at issue was found tucked in between the driver’s seat and center console of the vehicle. The defendant’s DNA was located on the firearm.
The case was investigated by the Criminal Intelligence Unit of the New Haven Police Department and the Violent Crime Task Force comprised of several agencies as well as the Division of Scientific Services within the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP). The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Charles Johnson with assistance from Inspectors Sean Faughnan and Jeffrey Cortes.
State’s Attorney Doyle would like to extend his gratitude to the New Haven Police Department and the Violent Crime Task Force.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 20, 2026 in New Haven Superior Court.
