(Vernon, CT) - Craig P. Nowak, State’s Attorney for the Tolland Judicial District, announced that the Honorable Tejas Bhatt today found William James Flint, age 43, of Stafford Springs, guilty of Sexual Assault in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-70(a)(2), Sexual Assault in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(1) and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2). The defendant waived his right to a jury trial and elected to be tried before the court. Judge Bhatt presided over the trial at Superior Court in Rockville.
Evidence at trial showed that the defendant sexually assaulted two juvenile victims in the town of Stafford Springs from 2014 to 2019. Both victims, now adults, testified that the defendant sexually assaulted them, both individually and together. One victim testified that the defendant sexually assaulted her from 2014 to 2019. The other victim testified that the defendant sexually assaulted her from 2014 to 2015. After announcing the guilty verdict, Judge Bhatt increased the defendant’s bond to $450,000. He is being held on this bond while awaiting sentencing for his criminal convictions. Sentencing is scheduled for March 10, 2026 at Superior Court in Rockville.
State’s Attorney Nowak prosecuted the case with the assistance of Division of Criminal Justice Inspector John DiVenere and Detective Justine Cedergren of the Connecticut State Police, Troop C, Eastern District Major Crime Squad.
