(Middletown, CT) – Middlesex Judicial District State’s Attorney Michael A. Gailor, announced that the Honorable Laura F. Baldini today sentenced William Bigaud, age 42, of Cromwell, to serve 70 years in prison for unlawfully entering the home of his children’s mother and stabbing her to death in front of the children.
On October 7, 2025, Bigaud was found guilty by a jury in Superior Court in Middletown of the crimes of Murder in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a(a), Home Invasion, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-100aa(a)(1) & (a)(2), Burglary in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-101(a)(1) and (a)(2), and Risk of Injury to a Child, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(1). He was sentenced to serve 50 years in prison for the crime of Murder and an additional 20 years for the crime of Home Invasion. In sentencing Bigaud, Judge Baldini described his crimes as “cruel, inhumane, and unconscionable.”
Evidence at trial showed that, after fatally stabbing the victim on June 8, 2020, Bigaud fled the state. He was apprehended on June 10, 2020, after a high-speed chase by authorities in LaGrange, Georgia.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Steven M. Lesko and State’s Attorney Gailor, with assistance from Inspector Joseph Flynn and Paralegal Specialist Katarzyna Lekarczyk.
State’s Attorney Gailor praised the work of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and apprehension of Bigaud, including the Middletown Police Department, Connecticut State Police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Troup County (Georgia) Sheriff’s Office. He also expressed his appreciation for the assistance of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's Division of Scientific Services.
