(New Haven, CT) – New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr. announced today that a jury in New Haven Superior Court on November 24, 2025 found Willie Dundy, age 64, of New Haven, guilty of the crimes of Assault in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-59(a)(1), Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-206(a), and Tampering with Physical Evidence, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-155a(a)(1). The Honorable David L. Zagaja presided over the trial.
According to the evidence introduced at trial, in the early evening hours of December 31, 2024, Dundy stabbed another individual twice in the back while both were present in the lobby of the Union Avenue train station in New Haven. The victim suffered serious physical injuries as a result and was treated at Yale New Haven Hospital and survived. Both Amtrak and New Haven Police Department officers responded immediately and were able to detain Dundy in the lobby of the train station. During their investigation, a folding knife and a box cutter were located in a nearby trash can. Surveillance footage showed Dundy disposing of the evidence after the attack. A witness bystander identified Dundy as the suspect to police.
“People should be able to use public transportation in our city without having to fear for their physical safety,” said State’s Attorney Doyle.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory L. Borrelli who was assisted by Inspector Eric Tracy and Paralegal Specialist Rosa I. Vasquez. The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department with assistance from Amtrak Police. The New Haven Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived quickly to render aid and transfer the victim.
State’s Attorney Doyle would like to extend his gratitude to all agencies for their thorough investigation of the matter. Sentencing is scheduled for February 2, 2026, in New Haven Superior Court.
