(Torrington, CT) – Litchfield Judicial District State’s Attorney David R. Shannon announced that a jury in Superior Court in Torrington today found Jonathon Todd, age 22, of Torrington, guilty of one count of Assault in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-59(a)(1). The Honorable Walter A. Menjivar presided over the trial.
Evidence presented at trial showed that on September 15, 2022, the defendant approached the victim while the victim was seated in a car at a Torrington business and engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, the defendant used a knife to stab the victim four times in the back. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by LifeStar Helicopter to Hartford Hospital for treatment and survived.
State’s Attorney Shannon wishes to extend his gratitude to the Torrington Police Department and the Connecticut State Police, Western District Major Crime Squad, for their investigation of this case. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Terri Sonnemann, with assistance from Paralegal Specialist Melissa Brewer, Inspector Forrest J. Beaulieu, and Victim Advocate Karen Lucid from the Office of Victim Services.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 25, 2025 in Superior Court in Torrington.
