(Middletown, CT) – Michael A. Gailor, State’s Attorney for the Middlesex Judicial District, today announced that on November 17, 2025, the Honorable Laura F. Baldini imposed a sentence of 13 years in prison, execution suspended after 4 ½ years served, with 5 years of probation on Pocahontas Cooley, age 62, of Rhode Island, who was found guilty after a court trial of two counts of Larceny in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §§ 53a-122(a)(2) and 53a-119(1), and one count of Larceny in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §§ 53a-123(a)(2) and 53a-119(1).
Evidence at trial showed that from December 2021 through January 2022, the defendant stole more than $143,000 from a man with whom she was living with in Clinton and then fled to Rhode Island. Most of the stolen money was money the man had inherited upon his father’s death.
