(Rocky Hill, CT) – A New Fairfield man has been arrested and charged with illegally collecting Workers’ Compensation benefits during his employment as a security officer for Securitas Inc., in Danbury.
David Stevenson, age 72, was arrested on November 5, 2025, by Inspectors from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney on a warrant charging him with Fraudulent Claim or Receipt of Benefits, in violation of Connecticut General Statues § 31-290c.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the defendant reported his purported injury on June 5, 2025, while working as a security officer at the Boehringer Ingelheim research and development building in Ridgefield. The defendant claimed he was injured when he either slipped on a wet floor or tripped on uneven flooring. A video recording contradicts his claim and depicts Stevenson intentionally lowering himself to the floor, laying himself down in a controlled fashion. Stevenson was placed in a Temporary Total Disability (TTD) status by his treating health care provider. TTD is a wage replacement benefit paid by the employer's workers' compensation insurance carrier while the claimant is unable to perform any type of work due to a work-related injury or illness. Sedgwick Claims Management Services paid out benefits for Stevenson totaling $1005.17 in wages and medical benefits.
Stevenson surrendered himself on November 5, 2025, at the Rocky Hill Police Department. He was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond. His next scheduled court date in Superior Court in Danbury, Geographical Area No. 3, is November 14, 2025.
The case will be prosecuted by the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in Rocky Hill. The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
