(Hartford, CT) - Sharmese L. Walcott, Hartford Judicial District State’s Attorney, today announced that a Hartford Superior Court jury on September 24, 2026 found Kenny De-Lao, age 39, of Manchester, guilty of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-71(a)(1), Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-73a(a)(1B), Risk of Injury to a Minor, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(1), and Illegal Sexual Contact, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-21(a)(2).
The trial evidence established that members of the Manchester Police Department responded to an incident where it was reported that there had been a sexual assault involving a juvenile. The juvenile had previously disclosed the incident to other juveniles who ultimately informed adults. Testimony at trial further revealed that on June 22, 2020, the defendant invited the juvenile to what seemed to be a gathering with individuals familiar to the juvenile. He picked up the juvenile and brought the juvenile to his apartment where he sexually assaulted the victim.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Katelynn MacKinnon and Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Carbray, with the assistance of Paralegal Specialist Julia Simon. The Honorable Courtney M. Chaplin presided over the trial.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 19, 2026 in Superior Court in Hartford.
