(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced today that The Honorable Tracy Lee Dayton on September 16, 2026 sentenced Joseph Dominick, age 21, of New Haven, to 40 years in prison, execution suspended after 30 years served, and a five-year period of probation, for his role in the 2023 fatal shooting of Shaquille Pearson in New Haven.
On July 13, 2026, the defendant pleaded guilty in Superior Court in New Haven to Manslaughter in the First Degree with a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-55a. The underlying incident involved the November 14, 2023 shooting death of Shaquille Pearson, age 29, of New Haven, during a street altercation in the area of East Pearl Street and Grand Avenue in New Haven.
The case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Adrienne Russo and Assistant State's Attorney Thomas Finnucan, who were assisted by Inspector Lawrence Smith.
State’s Attorney Doyle would like to extend his condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Pearson, many of whom attended the sentencing hearing and delivered heartfelt remarks about the magnitude of their loss. State’s Attorney Doyle would also like to express his gratitude for the efforts of lead Detective Christopher Stroscio of the New Haven Police Department and many of his fellow law enforcement officers who investigated the case.
