(New Haven, CT) - New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced today that the Honorable Elpedio N. Vitale on May 19, 2026 sentenced Tyrell Brown, age 40, of New Haven, to 35 years in prison, execution suspended after 30 years to serve, followed by three years of probation for a 2025 shooting at a New Haven business.
On February 27, 2026, a jury in New Haven Superior Court found Brown guilty of the crimes of Assault in the First Degree with a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-59(a)(5), Criminal Possession of a Pistol, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §53a-217c, and Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §29-35(a).
According to evidence introduced at trial, Brown shot the victim, Adam Reese, inside The Catwalk on East Street in New Haven on June 8, 2025. Reese suffered a gunshot wound to the hip, with the bullet exiting through his right side and striking the establishment’s wall.
The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas J. Finnucan, with assistance from Inspector Lawrence Smith and Victim Advocate Johanna Krebbs.
