(Bridgeport, CT) - Joseph T. Corradino, State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Bridgeport, announced today that a Superior Court jury in Bridgeport on May 8, 2025 convicted Jahleel Bailey, age 27, of Staten Island, New York, of Murder, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a(a), Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53-206(a), and Tampering with Physical Evidence, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §53a-155(a)(1).
The jury unanimously found the defendant guilty of the stabbing death of his brother-in-law, Brandon Goode, age 36, of Bridgeport, on December 13, 2020.
According to evidence presented at trial, Bailey stabbed Goode multiple times on Harral Avenue in Bridgeport shortly after 7 p.m. The victim was taken to the hospital shortly thereafter where he was pronounced dead from his wounds.
Bailey had immediately fled to Staten Island, New York, where he was later apprehended by authorities on January 11, 2021. He was subsequently extradited back to Connecticut on January 29, 2021.
A jury of seven men and five women deliberated for half of a day before returning the verdicts. “I want to thank the jury for their careful deliberation in arriving at an appropriate verdict. I am glad we were able to find justice for Mr. Goode and his family,” said Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Edward Lee Miller, who tried the case for the state.
State’s Attorney Corradino praised Inspector Martin Heanue and retired Bridgeport Police Detective Robert Winkler, who led the investigation, for bringing the case to a successful conclusion. Corradino also extended his gratitude to the rest of the Bridgeport Police Department for their efforts, along with the State of Connecticut Division of Scientific Services and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for their work. “We are fortunate to have both experienced investigators and talented prosecutors handling these type of cases,” Corradino said.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 8, 2025 in front of the Honorable Judge Robin Pavia.
