(Rocky Hill, CT) – The owner of a Danbury tow truck company has been arrested and charged with failing to provide the required workers’ compensation insurance coverage for employees.
Rahamat Hydar, age 55, of Danbury, and owner of Meagan’s Auto, Truck & Equipment Specialist, LLC, also known as Meagan’s Auto, was arrested on March 25, 2025, by Inspectors from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, and was charged with Criminal Liability, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-11, and Noncompliance with Insurance Requirements, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 31-288(f).
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Hydar, the principal owner of Meagan’s Auto, failed to carry workers’ compensation insurance coverage for his workers. Information acquired through the database of the National Council on Compensation Insurance also revealed that Meagan’s Auto has previously maintained workers’ compensation insurance policies that have been canceled and renewed multiple times for either nonpayment of the premium for the policy, a failure to comply with terms and conditions, or the result of a failed audit.
In November of 2023, an employee of Meagan’s Auto was involved in a serious work-related accident while assisting a customer at a tow truck scene. At the time, there was no workers’ compensation insurance policy in effect to cover the employee.
Connecticut state law requires businesses to demonstrate to the Workers’ Compensation Commission their solvency and financial ability to compensate injured employees or beneficiaries. Otherwise, the business must carry workers’ compensation insurance to cover the full liability.
Hydar was released on $10,000.00 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court, Geographical Area No. 3, on April 2, 2025. The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case will be prosecuted by the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. The Unit is grateful for the assistance it received from the Rocky Hill Police Department.
