Jury Finds West Haven Man Guilty of Weapon and Drug Charges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1/20/2026

(Milford, CT) - Margaret E. Kelley, Ansonia/Milford Judicial District State’s Attorney, announced that a jury in Milford Superior Court today found Seth Tyson, age 44, of West Haven, guilty of one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-217(a)(1) and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes §21-279(a)(1)(a).

According to evidence at trial, the Street Crime Unit of the West Haven Police Department executed a search and seizure warrant at the defendant’s apartment which he occupied alone. Fentanyl and other illegal substances were located on the bed where the defendant was found. A further search of the bedroom closet turned up a firearm in a backpack with some identifying information belonging to the defendant. A bag of ammunition matching the caliber of the firearm was also located in a different area of the closet. Due to a previous felony conviction, the defendant was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The Honorable Stephanie A. Damiani presided over the trial. Sentencing is scheduled for April 1, 2026 in Milford Superior Court.

This case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Alanna Paul, Investigator Robert Weymer and Paralegal Specialist Chelsea Meehan.
