Chief State's Attorney's Meeting

Minutes of the Meeting of February 23, 2009

In attendance: Jonathan Benedict, David Cohen, John Connelly, Michael Dearington, Patricia Froehlich, Michael Gailor, Matthew Gedansky, Herbert Carlson (for Gail Hardy), Kevin Kane, Kevin Lawlor, Timothy Liston, Paul Murray, Michael Regan, Judith Rossi, John Russotto and David Shepack.

The meeting commenced at 12:35 P.M. The minutes from the January 26, 2009, meeting were reviewed and unanimously approved.

  1. Budget projections were updated by Deputy Chief State's Attorney Russotto. Appropriations subcommittee of the legislature heard from Chief State's Attorney Kane this morning and it is reported that the interaction was positive. We will be meeting with them again on March 9th. Discussion ensued on habeas reform and expenses related to capital litigation. Impact on filling vacancies and the need for detailed justification was discussed.
  2. Legislative update was provided by Chief State's Attorney Kane.
  3. Extradition travel was discussed. Travel agency contract was on a list of contracts not to be used. Deputy Chief State's Attorney Russotto reported that we had received clearance to continue using that contract for extraditions.
  4. Evelyn Godbout reported on progress in the Case Management project. Additional workshops are scheduled and the importance of participation was stressed.
  5. Chief State's Attorney Kane reminded all of the need for ongoing statistics on numbers of persistent offender informations filed and persistent offender sentencings so that he will be prepared to answer questions from legislators.
