Minutes of the Meeting of October 17, 2022

The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.

In addition to Justice McDonald, participating in the meeting were: The Honorable Melanie L. Cradle, attorneys Scott Murphy and Moy Ogilvie and Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin.

Attorney Murphy moved to accept the minutes of the October 6, 2022 meeting. Judge Cradle seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Justice McDonald, on behalf of the Commission, expressed his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Bristol Police Sgt. Dustin DeMonte and Officer Alex Hamzy, who were tragically killed in the line of duty on October 12, 2022, and wished Officer Alec Iurato a speedy and full recovery from the injuries he suffered.

Justice McDonald also on behalf of the Commission expressed his gratitude to the employees of the Division of Criminal Justice.

“I wanted to acknowledge the men and women of the Division of Criminal Justice, including the prosecutors, inspectors and staff who have comported themselves in such a professional manner under such trying and difficult circumstances,” Justice McDonald said.

Justice McDonald said the Commission was to interview candidates for one position of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys in the Office of the State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Litchfield, G.A. No. 18 and two positions of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Tolland, G.A. No. 19.

David R. Shannon, State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Litchfield, and Matthew C. Gedansky, State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Tolland, were present to participate in the interviews of candidates for Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney.

Chief State’s Attorney Griffin moved to enter into executive session to discuss candidates for the positions. Judge Cradle seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The executive session began at 9:10 a.m.

At 11:15 a.m., the Commission adjourned briefly. After a short recess, the Commission resumed its executive session at 11:25 a.m.

The executive session ended at 1:10 p.m. Justice McDonald announced that no motions were made or votes taken during the executive session. Chief State’s Attorney Griffin moved to approve Frederick Reeder as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Judicial District of Litchfield, G.A. No. 18.  Judge Cradle seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Attorney Ogilvie moved to approve Katelynn MacKinnon as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Judicial District of Tolland, G.A. No. 19. Judge Cradle seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

There being no further business, Attorney Murphy moved to adjourn the meeting. Judge Cradle seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 1:12 p.m.
