Minutes of the Meeting of June 22, 2021
The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair, called the meeting to order at 10:34 a.m. In accordance with Executive Orders issued because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was conducted by electronic conference (ZOOM software). The public was provided notice of the meeting via the Division of Criminal Justice/Criminal Justice Commission website and invited to observe the proceedings and participate and/or submit public comment.
In addition to Justice McDonald and the public, participating in the meeting were: The Honorable Melanie L. Cradle, attorneys Robert Berke, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Scott Murphy and Moy Ogilvie and Chief State’s Attorney Richard J. Colangelo, Jr.
Justice McDonald said the Commission was to consider the reappointments of the Chief State’s Attorney and the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney of Operations. He invited Chief State’s Attorney Richard J. Colangelo, Jr., to make opening remarks. After brief opening remarks, the Commission interviewed Chief State’s Attorney Colangelo and the interview ended at 10:48 a.m.
Justice McDonald invited Deputy Chief State’s Attorney of Operations Kevin D. Lawlor to make opening remarks. After the remarks, the Commission interviewed Deputy Chief State’s Attorney of Operations Lawlor and the interview ended at 11:21 a.m.
Attorney Berke made a motion to go into executive session to discuss the reappointments of the Chief State’s Attorney and the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney of Operations. Justice Cradle seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The executive session began at 11:21 a.m. Chief State's Attorney Colangelo did not attend or participate in the executive session.
The Commission reconvened in public session at 11:40 a.m. Justice McDonald announced that no motions were made or votes taken during the executive session.
Attorney Murphy moved to appoint Richard J. Colangelo, Jr., as Chief State’s Attorney for the five-year term. Attorney Betts seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Attorney Betts then moved to appoint Kevin D. Lawlor as Deputy Chief State's Attorney of Operations for the four-year term. Attorney Berke seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
There being no further business, Attorney Murphy moved to adjourn. Attorney Ogilvie seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 11:42 a.m.
