Criminal Justice Commission
Minutes of the Meeting of June 10, 2021
The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair, called the meeting to order at 10:19 a.m. In accordance with Executive Orders issued because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was conducted by electronic conference (ZOOM software).
In addition to Justice McDonald, participating in the meeting were: The Honorable Melanie L. Cradle, attorneys Robert Berke, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Scott Murphy and Moy Ogilvie and Chief State’s Attorney Richard J. Colangelo, Jr.
Justice McDonald said the Commission would resume the executive session the Commission began but later recessed during the May 13, 2021 regular meeting to consider the reappointments of the Chief State’s Attorney and the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney of Operations. Justice McDonald said due to prior scheduled obligations by members of the Commission, the meeting could last about two hours and an additional meeting might be needed if the agenda was not completed.
Attorney Murphy moved to enter executive session to discuss the reappointments of the Chief State’s Attorney and the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney of Operations. Attorney Ogilvie seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The executive session began at 10:21 a.m. Chief State's Attorney Colangelo did not attend or participate in the executive session.
The executive session ended at 11:28 a.m. and at that time, Justice McDonald announced that no motions were made or votes taken during the executive session.
Justice McDonald said after reviewing the agenda for the June 10, 2021 special meeting during the executive session, it was determined that an item seeking public comment was left off the agenda. The May 13, 2021 regular meeting did include public comment. As a result of that item not being on the June 10, 2021 agenda, Justice McDonald said he would schedule a special meeting for June 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. for the Commission to take final action on the reappointments of the Chief State’s Attorney and the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney of Operations. At that time, Justice McDonald said, the public would get another opportunity to provide testimony and the Commission could ask additional questions.
There being no further business, Attorney Betts moved to adjourn the meeting subject to resuming the meeting on June 22, 2021. Attorney Ogilvie seconded the motion and it passed unanimously on a voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
