Minutes of the Meeting of Friday, June 1, 2018

 The Criminal Justice Commission met on Friday, June 1, 2018, to conduct interviews and select candidates for the positions of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys at the Office of the State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk; Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney at the Office of the State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Tolland; and any other business that may come before the Commission.  

The meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m. by The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair. 

In attendance were:  The Honorable Juliett Crawford, Attorney Mary M. Galvin, Attorney Eric J. George, Attorney Moy N. Ogilvie, Attorney Erick A. Russell and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane.  Also present:  State’s Attorney Richard J. Colangelo, Jr., Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk; State’s Attorney Matthew C. Gedansky, Judicial District of Tolland; and Human Resources/Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist Ngina McMillian.

Attorney George made a motion, seconded by Attorney Ogilvie, to approve the minutes of the meeting of November 20, 2017.  The motion passed unanimously. 

The Commission interviewed the following for two positions of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk:  Elizabeth K. Moran, Margaret Moscati, Michael P. Nemec, Isaias Luis Pedraza, Sarah Ross-Benjamin, and Albert Vetere.

After a brief recess at 10:48 a.m., the interviews resumed at 10:58 a.m.  Attorney Galvin made a motion to go into executive session at 1:00 p.m. to discuss the appointments.  The motion was seconded by Attorney Ogilvie and passed unanimously. 

The Commission resumed its public meeting at 1:16 p.m.   At 1:20 p.m., the Commission also interviewed Jennifer W. Cooper, Daniel Hespeler, Alison Kubas, Kristin D. Losi, and Sarah Fallon Murphy for the Tolland position.

Attorney Galvin made a motion to go into executive session at 3:50 p.m. to discuss the appointments.  The motion was seconded by Attorney Ogilvie and passed unanimously. 

Following the executive session, Attorney Galvin moved for the appointment of Attorneys Elizabeth K. Moran and Michael P. Nemec as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk.  Attorney Ogilvie seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Attorney George moved for the appointment of Attorney Daniel Hespeler as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Tolland. The motion was seconded by Attorney Ogilvie.  The motion passed with six votes in favor and Judge Crawford abstaining.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
