Minutes of Meeting
January 24, 2011

The Criminal Justice Commission met on Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in Rocky Hill to interview candidates for appointment as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys at the Office of the State’s Attorney, Tolland Judicial District, Geographical Area 19; Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Financial Crimes Bureau; and any other business that may come before the Commission.

The following members were present: Justice Richard N. Palmer, Chairman, Judge Thomas A. Bishop, Attorney Maura H. Horan, Attorney Garrett M. Moore, Attorney Ann G. Taylor, Attorney Alfred A. Turco and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane. Also present were State’s Attorney Matthew C. Gedansky, Tolland Judicial District, and Patricia Alston, Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist.

The meeting, which was open to the public, commenced at 9:44 a.m. Attorney Taylor made a motion to accept the minutes from the December 13, 2010, January 3, 2011, and January 13, 2011, meetings. The motion was seconded by Judge Bishop and approved unanimously.

The Commission then took up the vacancy of the Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Tolland Judicial District, Geographical Area 19, and interviewed the following attorneys: Andrew Reed Durham, Benjamin Mann, Veronica Paige, Thomas Sousa and Elizabeth Tanaka.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., Leonard C. Boyle, Deputy Chief State’s Attorney, joined the meeting.

The Commission recessed at approximately 12:07 p.m. and resumed its public meeting at 12:37 p.m.

The Commission then took up the vacancy of the Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Financial Crimes Bureau at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. The following attorneys were interviewed: Deneka Cummings-Garcia, Monica Fanesi and Evelyn Rojas. Attorneys Andrew Reed Durham and Elizabeth Tanaka were considered also for this vacancy. They were interviewed earlier in the morning.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., Judge Bishop moved that the Commission go into executive session to discuss the above-mentioned positions. The motion was seconded by Attorney Turco and passed unanimously. Deputy Chief State’s Attorney Boyle and State’s Attorney Gedansky were present during executive session.

Following the executive session, the Commission resumed its public meeting at approximately 2:20 p.m. Attorney Horan moved that Attorney Andrew Reed Durham be appointed Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney at the Office of the State’s Attorney, Tolland Judicial District, Geographical Area 19. The motion was seconded by Attorney Taylor and passed unanimously. Attorney Moore moved that Attorney Elizabeth Tanaka be appointed Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Financial Crimes Bureau at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. The motion was seconded by Judge Bishop and passed unanimously.

At approximately 2:25 p.m., the meeting was adjourned.
